Volunteer Application
Please fill out this application form to inquire about volunteer opportunities with the Central Oregon Guardian Assistance Program.
The Central Oregon Guardian Assistance Program (COGAP) provides pro bono guardianship services to central Oregonians with limited means who are incapacitated and as a result, unable to make medical, housing, and financial decisions for themselves. We help people who are unable to make decisions regarding medical treatment, housing, and nutrition due to a lack of capacity by providing pro bono guardianship services to those in need. Often these individuals may be unhoused, dealing with learning or cognitive disabilities, mental health conditions, dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, or substance abuse disorders.
Why COGAP Needs Volunteers:
When we place a protected person into a stable living situation, the change can be very stressful for them. We are looking for volunteers that can provide companionship by visiting them, so they don’t feel isolated or forgotten. Volunteers play a very important role, especially in the first 60 days of placement.
Volunteer Roles:
Visitation Volunteers will be contacted with the details of when, where and whom they are to visit and COGAP staff will work with the volunteers to find the best match based on location and other circumstances. Emily Coxey, who is the court appointed legal guardian for COGAP will appreciate check-ins from the visitation volunteers as well as learning about any issues or needs that the protected person may have.
Welcome Basket Volunteers will be provided with a list of items needed for individuals that are transitioning into care facilities. They will be responsible for buying or getting donated items on the list.
Criminal background checks will be performed on each volunteer before they start.
